There is an interesting juxtaposition between the painstakingly deliberate and the happy accident in the work of Alvaro Alvarz. His recent work is often a mixture of drawing and painting, executed after intensive examination of a photographic image that he is attracted to. He combines very fine brushwork and feathery line to create paintings that have an extraordinary delicacy and a haunting ethereal quality.
